Laid in Ruins: Tyler Hayes’ 2013 Subaru STI

In 2012 it all started with looking for a new daily, something fun that could be driven all year-long. So of course the first thing that came to Tyler Hayes’ mind was a car that had both all wheel drive and boost. Narrowing his options down to either a Subaru STI or Mitsubishi Evo, Tyler really had to weigh his options. He always loved the way Subarus sounded and the functionality of the available hatch made it a no brainer, so he went ahead and ordered his 2013 Satin White Pearl STI.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-002Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-006Before he made his purchase, Tyler spent a lot of time browsing forums and finding out all of the popular mods and the possibilities of this car. It was at this point that he stumbled upon this one slammed Hatch on Work XD-9 wheels and fell in love. Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-003Tyler was new to the car world and didn’t know right from wrong so every step of this process was a learning experience for him. He first ordered some springs and replica wheels and thought he was on my way to having the car where he wanted it to be. Boy was he wrong.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-005As Tyler made friends in the car world, he learned more and more about going lower without destroying his car’s body (which had less than 2000 miles on it). The only upgrade in sight that made sense to go with air suspension. Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-001He did even more research and got hooked up with Andrew at Open Road Tuning and he got me dialed with the Air Lift Slam Series struts matched up with AccuAir E-Level Management. Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-007Shortly after the air ride went in, Tyler started focusing more and more on wheel fitment and knew he had to get off of reps and onto some quality wheels ASAP. That’s where he stumbled upon a picture of a wheel that he knew he had to have: the Brada BR10. Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-009Tyler contacted Brada and Zane quickly worked with him to get the specs he wanted. Upon arrival, the wheels took even more work than previously thought to sit as properly as he wanted them to.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-008To get the fitment he wanted he needed modified Lower Control Arms, and Toe arms which GTSpec helped out with. Coupled with Camber Bolts, and Bushings from Whiteline, this Subby was now dialed down to perfection.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-014Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-015Things changed pretty quickly for Tyler, and he just kept getting deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole from there. Its been so much fun modding the car and meeting a bunch of cool people along the way like Erik who shot these photos.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-010Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-013What Tyler’s planning on upgrading further down the road is more of a track fitment for his wheels in order to see just how far he can push the car on a circuit. He’s excited to see the capabilities of air in a performance setup Vs the purely aesthetic route he’s gone down so far.Subaru-WRX-STI-Air-Lift-AccuAir-Brada-AirSociety-Bagged-Stance-012
