White Cajun: Long Mai’s Lexus LS460

New Orleans native Long Mai wanted to get his 2010 Lexus LS460 Sport as close to the ground as possible, but he was torn about just how to get it done. Would he have to buy an off the shelf solution, build his own bag-over-coil setup, or would he have to take a completely different approach?Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-001Most people might not be aware that the Lexus LS460 Sport comes from the manufacturer with air suspension installed. The problem with this is that it can sometimes be more difficult to modify a factory air suspension than it would be to swap it out and start from scratch.Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-002To most people this might have put them over the edge and pushed them toward an off the shelf solution, but Lon saw it as an opportunity to save a few dollars while still getting the look he was after.Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-005He began by modifying the he stock ride height control module and tricking it into allowing him the ability to control the height of his vehicle.Seeing that he was successful with his experiment, Long next moved to investing the cash he was otherwise going to spend on an air ride kit towards a Wald international body kit.Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-006Having saved a ton of trunk space by not picking up an aftermarket air suspension management setup, he worked on customizing his luggage compartment by focusing on the sound system instead. Two 10″ JL Audio sub woofers, three Critical Mass amps, one Audio Control DAL-8 processor and a factory LCD screen bypass for watching videos inside the car.Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-004The most important decision that was now needed was to add icing to the cake and finish the project he started. Long knew that with the massive Futura Design brakes he had on his car he needed to get a set of custom wheels that could clear them.Lexus-LS460-bagged-air-ride-suspension-AirSociety-VIPmodular-003After facing an array of wheel choices, Long settled on a massive set of 22×9″ front and 22×10.5″ rear VIP Modular VR08 wheels and called it a day.
Taking time to look back on his creation, Long knew that without the support of VIP Modular and Futura Designs for hardware, his ride would have been a lot less dominant than it is today.
