Four to the Floor: Unitronic’s Audi A3

When a VW or Audi owner wants to go fast, Unitronic is there to deliver massive gains to stock rides. What was it that made them ditch their old coilover setup on this 2008 Audi A3 and opt for Air Lift Performance Series air ride? Time to dig deeper and figure it out.In the 6 years or so since I’ve been visiting the Unitronic headquarters, owners Mike S. and Mike Z.’s drive to outperform their competition has never changed.  Being faster, better and more reliable has always been the name of the game for these two.I’ve always known them to be hardcore speed demons and advocates of both on and off-road performance so it came to a bit of a surprise to me when I heard they bagged their Audi A3.At the location of our photoshoot I took the time to hear what they had to say.  As it turns out they had been following our growth and wanted to test how a set of rubbers could withstand the massive power outputs that their reflashed cars produce.  A call to Air Lift was made and before they knew it, they were riding on air.Slamming the Audi to the ground for show was never the endgame.  Air Lift Performance Series 9-level adjustable dampening air struts front and Air Lift rear rubbers on Air Lift brackets with Koni shocks rear bags proved to be stiff enough to meet all their testing needs.A single 5 gallon tank and ViAir 380c compressor were matched up to the Autopilot V1 management to complete the project car’s setup and proved to them that this air ride setup was truly in a league of its own.Of course when it came down to pushing the rubber air springs to the limit, Unitronic spared no expense.  A full interior overhaul saw a new Podi boost gauge that could read the power output of the upgraded S3 K04 turbo.  Naturally this Audi is equipped with a Unitronic Stage 2+ software upgrade which requires a full 3″ turbo back exhaust, S3 intercooler and custom Unitronic intake pipe upgrade to see true gains out of the 355hp and 355ft/lb engine.A full interior overhaul wouldn’t be complete without a fully custom and reupholstered set of buckets that matched diamond stitched accents throughout the car.A call to Rotiform saw fresh 19×8.5″ BLQ wheels make their way north of the US border via OEMconcept and into the LL Arts paint booth to be color matched alongside the OEM Audi S3 front and rear bumpers, side skirt and front grille.A hunger for power is often times seen as a bad thing however when your job is to deliver numbers and neck jerking action at the press of a pedal, a little power-tripping goes a long way.

Big thanks go out to Unitronic for building this killer ride, Podi for the gauges, OEMconcept for the wheel hookups, LL Arts for the paint and TM Tuning for the OEM S3 body kit.
