Here’s a little weekend feature about Jose Velazquez’s MK5 VW Jetta GLI. Having served 6 years of his life in the US Army, we figured we’d give something back to him. This car has to be special because it ended up following him from Texas to Hawaii when he moved. His modding action really blossomed in the tropical climate.
Choosing to first go with power upgrades over esthetic and suspension mods, Jose went buck wild feeding his engine a K04 Audi S3 turbo upgrade, REVO Stage 3 ECU and Stage 2 DSG flash. Then came along the APR turboback exhaust, FORGE waste gate, and RS4 fuel injectors.I ended up becoming Jose’s friend on Facebook earlier this year which led to many talks about air ride. Finally, 5 years after the MK5 was picked up he made the plunge.
After doing research, Jose felt comfortable dealing with Andrew at Open Road Tuning and chose to go with a Bagyard setup. One of the factors that pushed him towards Bombers was the fact that Bagyard front struts had capability to retain his H&R adjustable front sway bar. Bagyard Classic rears where installed with Bilstein sport struts and an AccuAir E-level management system to give him the control he needed in his day to day operations. A set of ViAir 400C compressors compliment the AccuAir eXo Mount management setup.
Pulling up to the drive-through, a set of 19×9 Rotiform TMB’s were ordered to accommodate his big brake kit. A convex face, hidden hardware, 2” front and 3” rear polished lips, polished faces, black powder coat barrel were custom ordered with the apple turnover to offer the ultimate dining experience.
