The MK5 Duo from Hawaii

Today’s feature will both please and annoy much of the MK5 community out there…

Dino and Jeff are 2 proud owners of a 2008 VW GTI and R32 from Hawaii. We’re letting them know they’re very fortunate for living in such a beautiful and hot State and getting to drive bagged dubs by the beach day in and day out.

The Mk5 scene is becoming so crowded that it becomes harder and harder to stand out from everyone else. Dino’s GTI  is well known in Hawaii for winning many awards including Hottest Euro at 2010 SpoCom Hawaii National Tour.  This United grey beast is not only dumped on Anthracite BBS CK wheels, but manages to hide many subtle performance mods underneath that sleeper exterior. From a REVO Technik Stage 2+ ECU Tuning software,  ATP cold air intake and down pipe, KMD high pressure fuel pump, ABD Front mount intercooler, Forge diverter valve, ATP DV mounting kit and a couple of other goodies, Dino’s got it made when it comes to cranking out all the power he can out of the stock motor.

Although it looks pretty simple from the outside, when one starts listing many of the exterior mods done to this car one quickly realizes the amount of work and effort that was put into it. The OEM Votex front and side valances, color matched rear bumper valance, OEM Passat mirror covers, OEM open fog grills, OEM R32 smoke tail lights, OSIR Carbon fiber spoiler, and black painted roof are just a few of the features that set Dino’s ride apart from the rest.

Now to Jeff Davis’ R32, .:R purists beware!

The engine mod list might not be as big as Dino’s but there’s one thing that has to be kept in mind… it’s an .:R.   A Borla exhaust and EvoMS V-Flow intake are about as much as any R32 fanatic would want to install on their rides. If one was to ask most .:R owners what they would do in terms of performance mods on their rides, many would stand united in answering intake + exhaust.  One thing they almost all say they’ll never do is bag their rides due to the fetish R32 owners have for their superior handling.  Let’s be honest though, how often would the average guy or gal take their car to a race track for some lapping?  Jeff manned up and dropped in a set of Air Lift XL front and custom STS 808 with inverted Dominator 2500 rear bags just to make sure his car was off the hook!

Other than that, a set of 18” staggered and polished faced Avant Garde M310 wheels and brushed aluminum mirror caps were added to complete the style of the OEM .:R grille.

Both bag setups are similar except for dual compressors on Jeff’s ride and a custom painted tank for Dino’s.

  • 5 gallon aluminum AVS air tank
  • Auto Pilot V1 digital management
  • Air Lift XL front struts
  • STS 808 custom rear with inverted 2500 Dominator bags
  • VIAR 380C Compressor (dual 380’s for Jeff’s R32)
  • 3/8″ front line 1/4″ rear line
  • AVS water trap

These two members of Team Foreign Objects are some seriously mint rides. You’ll be able to see these two dubs later this summer at their 5th Annual Euro Show & Shine –
